We were late with the most recent episode of Contra Krugman — I’d been traveling so much I just didn’t have my bearings.
And as Bob helpfully points out: if anything ever goes wrong with the Contra Krugman podcast, assume it’s Tom’s fault.
I hope the wait was worth it.
We went after Krugman’s column offering advice to Clinton based on lessons learned from the 1990s boom under her husband.
This may be the single dumbest column Krugman has written since we began the podcast last fall.
In the column Krugman openly admits that the good economic performance of the 1990s had nothing to do with Clinton himself, but rather with technology.
OK, but what kind of “lesson” is that supposed to be for Hillary? Be lucky enough to preside over another wave of innovation?
Of course not. Since such a thing won’t happen, Hillary may as well go ahead and increase government spending — pardon me, “investment.”
So here’s the column we have: Hillary, learn lessons from Bill. Well, there actually are no lessons from Bill, so just go ahead and spend lots of government money, even though that’s the opposite of the lesson from the 1990s, a time when government spending as a percentage of GDP fell year after year.
Oh, it’s brutal, my friends.
Also, you’ll love this: special guest Gene Epstein says Bob Murphy, my co-host, is too soft on Krugman.

Oh, and by the way, time’s getting short to join Bob and me on the Contra Cruise, the event of the year:
This week’s episode of Contra Krugman, number 38, should be up later today, and we’re back on schedule.
