Operation Grandma

Ron Paul is winning by a landslide among young voters in the Republican primary race, but not doing as well among those 65 and older, who make up a large percentage of the people who actually show up at the polls. In this video I call on those young voters to speak directly to their grandparents about Ron Paul:

In the comments below, please weigh in on this. Are you in? Will you do it? Have you had any success with your grandparents? What arguments hit home with them? Which YouTubes worked? What are their concerns about Ron Paul, and how best can we respond?

Dr. Paul’s speech last year at the Values Voters Summit, one of his best speeches ever, has been suggested as a good one for your conservative grandparents:

Ashley, the 90-year old dude was there when the Fed was created!  The 45-65 year old folks need to be reminded of history to see how we’re just repeating mistakes of the past by re-electing “status quo” candidates.

Thanks Laura, but Tom Woods is absolutely correct. There are two groups of “anti-Pauls, if you will. One group is the older uninformed or mis-informed older folks who get their “truths” from newspapers, the “Talking Heads” on TV, or their Pastors in Church. These people don’t know the absolute truth of Dr. Paul. I was one of those people four years ago until I turned the TV off and did proper research on the Internet.

The other group of anti-Pauls are VERY WELL informed on Dr. Paul. These are the Establishment folks who don’t want a President Paul to put an end to their “Public Debt and War for Profit Gravy Train.”  They are many, they are powerful, and they are filthy rich. They will be tough to beat, and that’s why we need “Operation Grandma” and every Ron Paul supporter to be a foot-soldier and campaign endlessly for Dr. Paul.  Peace and Ron Paul in 2012!

You’re exactly correct. But the problem is, Dr. Paul and folks like yourself who are knowledgeable about FED are talking OVER Grandma and Grandpa’s heads.  They need to see it with their own eyes. See the first three “Serious” videos on the hompage at this site.

As a 20-year-old, I completely agree that most people, by my generation at least, feel as though their vote doesn’t count.

I think the point of this operation, though, is that generations your age and above grew up in an era when television and newspapers were the primary source of news and information; and this media apparatus they have come to trust is utterly intent on ensuring that Ron Paul loses.

Ron Paul is popular among young people partially because they use the internet to inform themselves, and it seems reasonable that he is unpopular among old people because they rely on a media who barely acknowledges Ron Paul’s existence.

I have had to *re*-convert my grandmother several times. She is just so skittish and scared about his foreign policy/national security and every critical word about it seems to swing her back away from him.

I feel Ron Paul has *GOT* to clarify and reset his foreign policy/national security positions in the minds of conservatives if he wants to be taken seriously and possibly get the nomination.

This is an excellent idea! I hadn’t even thought about bringing my grandparents on ship. Since I live far from my grandparents, I sent a loving email along with this video (and explanation) to my grandparents. They said “thank you so much for all the thought you put into sending the information,” but that’s about it. The seed was planted–we’ll see what happens! :D

Here’s my story for my wife’s parents (my parents are already die-hard Paul supporters), hope it helps, though the short story is I have not reached them yet:

My mother-in-law listens to talk radio ALL day, but the time of day she pays attention to most is Dennis Prager and Michael Medved.  Whenever she makes references to Dr. Paul in my presence, they are attacks on him.  I refute them, she remains smug in her ignorance, and we move on with our lives.

My father-in-law is slightly more independent-minded and is able to acknowledge the economic merits of Ron Paul, but he is convinced that Ron Paul will not be able to achieve all he wants to do.  I point out that’s a poor reason to not support someone who you at least agree is trying to do the right things.  He remains unconvinced.  They are both products of the propaganda machine that convinces them what is and is not right to consider in a candidate.

I write to share a recent conversation with him that led me to a hypothesis on why Christians are so divided on Israel and, subsequently, Ron Paul.

It comes down to Dispensationalism.  If you’re talking to a Christian that believes the promises in the Bible are referring to a literal geographic Israel, you are a lot more likely to run into a mindset that puts protecting Israel above protecting America.  To the dispensationalist, it’s impossible to convince them that there is ANY cost too great in protecting Israel.  They’re totally fine with our undermining Israel’s sovereignty.

Since my mother-in-law listens to Prager and Medved all day and gets to listen to their Jewish-but-we-love-Christians worldviews, she gets constant reminders of how we can attempt to peacefully reconcile Jewish belief in the nation-Israel reward and the Christian belief in the spiritual-Israel reward.  But then, my in-laws also attend a church rooted in Dispensationalism.

If anyone has any tips or resources on how to either back them off of Dispensationalism or else how to reason a Dispensationalist toward Ron Paul, please let me know.

    Mr. Woods,

While I am a little over the college demographic Ron Paul’s key base comes from I am no less enthused about his campaign. So much so that I am actually regisetered to vote for the primary of my state rather than stick to my views of no affiliation.

I have been working with the older members of my family in states yet to vote in April but the big issue that I’m having to jump is Ron Paul’s view and policies on Social Security (specifically) and the ‘welfare state’ (in general). While I am definately for Ron Paul’s plan for allowing people my age to opt out of systems that will never pay dividends in my lifetime. I unfortunately hit a wall when it comes down to how theose already receiving such benefits will continue to prosper when the federal gun is no longer in my rib forcing my payout into the system. This is a subject I’m poorly equipped to respond to and have little to no ammunition to fuel my arguments. This is a key concern among my predominately democratic elders and I need some help if I’m going to get them to jump the fence to help Ron Paul with the Republican nomination.

haha my grandma switched to supporting Ron Paul for just OFFERING to do chores for her

  • That_one_person_guy

My grandma always says that she doesn’t think he’ll win just based on the fact that he didn’t win elections in previous years… :/

My grandpa doesn’t really care much for politics and doesn’t really talk about it.

We need Operation Grandma on Steroids – Hit the Senior Centers, Assisted Living Centers, Nursing Homes, and Retirement Communities!  It would be very effective to have one older speaker talk to them as a group  and 4 or 5 young people handing out slim jims and talking one on one – but You alone would be effective too!  Nursing Homes have close to 100% voting turnout, go talk to them!
