Please spread this one around. A simple idea, and so obvious.

Just want to encourage people! I’m 68 yo and my dad is 96!  Still doing great and living near my brother in Hendersonville, TN.  After MUCH encouragement and info sharing, he has decided to vote for Ron Paul in their primary.  He watches NOTHING by the MSM and so has very skewed info on Ron Paul.  I have recorded some of Judge Napolitano’s programs on DVD for him, which give him good Ron Paul info.  He has no access to the Internet, but the DVDs are a great resource for him.  RON PAUL 2012!!!

  • Nbonasoro

i find these videos to be useful when discussing with family why ron paul is the best choice.
    good luck everybody

  • http://tomwoods.com Tom Woods

Great! But I assume you mean to say he watches nothing BUT the MSM.

I really wish that I could, but my grandmother died last year– she was the last of my grandparents.  However, I have both my mother and her husband on board (she’s in her 60s, he in his 70s), so I guess that qualifies.  I can guarantee that my mother, being the old gossip that she is, has convinced everybody on her speed-dial.

  • Frank M

I’m sure he did. Nice work, Tom. Grandmas are the toughest ones to get to listen. They’d rather listen to Sean Hannity lie to them every night than a family member who wouldn’t steer them wrong.

I assume you meant to say “She”.  LOL

I think we need to locate, and compile a list of media sources that are either for Ron Paul… or at least gives him a fair shake. Then refer them to those programs. Also, 1 issue i have found a big concern for that age demographic; They seem to be the “dont back down no matter what” generation. I think if Ron Paul can make it a little more clear to them about his stance on Iran and what he would do to handle a worst-case situation. I believe that if they hear more about WHY he is opposed to the current wars or premptive strikes in the middle east, that they will understand better and frankly, feel more at ease in getting onboard with the revolution. They need to hear more about how ending the wars and policing the world will ultimately make a stronger America that is more ready to deal with true threats to our way of life. Remember, we are talking about the “cold war” generation of baby boomers. This MUST be taken into account when talking to them. If we can attack head on, this concern…. well we will have beat down the biggest issue the other candidates use against Ron Paul.

  • Elaine

I AM the grandma, and this grandma did “Operation Grandkids” LOL and it worked!
But I also have some advice.  Please don’t use the legalizing drug issue unless you are able–and have a looong time to explain the issue.
I argued with my oldest son about this for years—and I finally understood.  Of course Dr. Paul has given me further understanding with his speeches.
    Thanks Tom!

My 85 year old mother had me put a Ron Paul bumper sticker on her big ol’ Buick La Sabre, lol. Winning! :)

  • Moshe

Tom, I’m way ahead of you. I already convinced my grandparents.

I love my grandparents, but I wish they weren’t so set in their ways. Brainwashed for 40 to 70 years by military-industrial complex and rags like Weekly Standard and National Review and Time and Newsweek.

I have respect for my elders, but ignorance knows the boundaries of no demographic.
Tom, Thanks for all that you do. Reading your books have been second only to Ron Paul’s in inspiring me to aid the cause of Liberty!

  • http://twitter.com/philoec Nora Smith

Young, old, and in-between, all should be fighting for the liberty with which God has created us. The establishment does not give us liberty, its job is to safeguard it.
Ron Paul is the authentic conservative; let’s fight for our right to liberty, for it is a gift from God.

Another thing to emphasize is that Only Paul can beat Obama. Mention that only he who has the highest favorable with indies can win in the general.

My grandparents have all passed away, but I did recently convert my parents (in their 50s) to Ron. I used the “Compassion of Paul” ad, along with these videos:
Michael Scheuer Pulls No Punches on Foreign Policy – YouTube
    (For Foreign Policy)

    and some heartwarming videos:

then I finished with this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qXBswFfh6AY for Ron Paul/Reagan comparison

I’m over 65 and a granny.  I’m a bit “odd” and have been for Paul since I became aware of him and his positions 4 yrs. ago.  I say “odd” because my friends (age approx. 60 – 70) do not understand economics or libertarianism hardly at all.  Our political discussions get unpleasant, actually, so I kind of avoid it.

Paul needs to address their fears over medicare reductions  – that’s their main concern.

The following link below is, in my opinion, a must see for all 65+ voters…Hands down!

There has been much said of how Dr. Paul spends a lot of time talking
about his appeal to young people. But this video proves that he could
appeal to the older voters as well if he would just use what’s here.

This is amazing! This is exactly the type of information that would
help bring in the older voters. Nostalgia is dripping from this!
Watching this made me think of simpler times when things made more
sense. Dr. Paul is so down to Earth here. Older voters need to see Dr.
Paul talking like this to remind them that we can have some of this
back if they help him change the course of things in Washington.

It shows that Dr. Paul has served his country honorably and honestly.

It shows that he has foreign experience because he has actually spent
much time in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan and Hong Kong, etc.

It shows him as a regular person, like everyone else, who had a
decent upbringing but may have struggled and worked hard to succeed.

It shows he has a genuine concern about everyday working Americans…of all ages.

It’s his “values” which will matter to the elderly as long as we can get the message out to them!

This is pure gold and the campaign should be treating it as such

    I just had another idea…

My mother lives in an assisted living facility.  Over time, I have gotten to know many of the other residents well.  I am going to take my laptop over there and set it up in the common area.   I will have youtubes and other links ready to go and, as I start a conversation with them about Dr. Paul, I can ask them if they would like to take a few minutes to learn more.

Perhaps there are other folks here who might try the same approach.  It might create a buzz amongst the others there as well.

  • Rich14662

I think this is a great idea to increase his percentages in this large voting demographic. I’ve spent a very large amount of time discussing Austrian theory and Dr.Paul’s stances on the issues with friends and co-workers to get them informed and interested.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vincent-A-Bandermann/1351891222 Vincent A. Bandermann

I recently spent three days installing automatic doors at a senior living center in St.Louis. It is a place where healthy residents live independently in their own apartments. I handed out the Paul Family Cookbook to a dozen or so ladies, and dozens of Super Brochures to the men. It was a great way to get them talking about politics. In our conversations, I repeatedly compared Dr. Paul to conservative icons of the past such as Goldwater, Eisenhower, and Taft. They loved it! I couldn’t believe how excited they were to talk about the ways things were, and the way things ought to be.

I learned three very important things from them.
    1) They DO NOT LIKE OBAMA !
    2) They have no interest or ability to explore the internet.
    3) Most of them have DVD players or, better yet, they congregate in the common areas of the center and watch DVDs together on a big screen.
I believe that we could very easily reach a large number of senior citizens by visiting places like the one I described. Grassroots volunteers could make a Saturday field trip to multiple senior living locations to distribute Cookbooks and Super Brochures.
Would it be possible to provide them with DVDs featuring highlights of Dr. Paul explaining his platform?
Ultimately, good old fashion face to face interaction with young people will win the hearts and minds of our most distinguished citizens.

    * Please note that there is a huge difference between independent living centers and the care centers that provide services to seniors who can’t provide for themselves. Supporters should visit INDEPENDENT LIVING CENTERS.
    * Independent living centers are usually secure facilities that don’t leave the front door unlocked for just anyone to walk in. Call ahead to the management office to let them know you are coming.

I think this is the greatest compliment that Ron Paul has received from the Establishment thus far. Said former Bush campaign strategist Holt:

thing about Ron Paul is, what does he want that we have?” Holt asked.
“He has never been someone who was interested in being co-opted or in
    trading and dealing.”
“When I was a staffer in the Republican
leadership in the House (of Representatives), whenever we were trying to
find votes for whatever we were doing, he would tell us how he was
    voting and that was that.
“There was nothing he wanted that we could offer him in exchange for his vote.”

  • Ivan

you can print this previous quotation and show to your skeptical grandma:
do you want to vote for a plastic man who would sell his own grandmother to get elected or for a man who cannot be bought, cannot be co-opted nor is interested in “trading and dealing” with the establishment.

Great idea, E. Here’s a compilation of Ron Paul videos:

I can’t see my comments as I type them in. Hopefully writing
them in Word, then “pasting” it will work. Anyway, I don’t know if this will
help specifically in Operation Grandma, but here is a very persuasive article
written in favor of Dr. Paul. It basically overcomes some of the most common
objections to a Ron Paul presidency. Maybe printing it out and distributing it
might help…? Even so, it deserves a read from anyone who is still on the fence.

Here’s my issue, my mom is 76 and voting for Paul. My father in law is 51 and ultra republican. There is nothing I can say or show him to get him to see the light. The writing is on the wall but he refuses to change even though he knows Ron is right. His argument is all about electability. He wonders why there is not a poll for independents. I tell him the indy’s are leaning for Paul but FOX news dominates his decision making. I’m looking for that lightbulb switch in his head but it’s pretty dark in there.

    I’m sure I did.  :)

I would say Paul’s “The Revolution: A Manifesto” is the best book for the older generation, especially for conservatives (but definitely good for others as well). The good thing about Paul is that almost everyone can find something they agree with him on, and that issue will keep them open minded to the other issues as well.

I agree wtth you, you should avoid certain issues that people can’t just get their head around, focus on issues like economics

  • http://mytimesucker.blogspot.com/ Julie

This is such a great idea! I was just telling my husband that young people need to convince their grandparents to support Dr. Paul. You must have read my mind! Sadly I don’t have any grandparents to convince. My mom is already a supporter and I think my dad is slowly coming around. But best of luck to everyone else with grandparents to convert!

  • http://mytimesucker.blogspot.com/ Julie

I definitely agree. Also stay away from prostitution. I’ve been discussing this issue with evangelical conservatives for the past three days and boy is it tiring!

  • Charles

Well I’m not the grandpa yet but I’m sure it won’t be long “)  I’m 54, an objectivist and as of late a Ron Paul supporter.    I’m down to just a Mom who sadly is just not physically fit to vote any longer so I’m thinking that I need to target my contemporaries.  What do y’all think about adding “Operation: Take a voter to lunch”?  No need to do the hard sale; just tell them whom you’re planning to vote for and if they’re interested then lead them to the proper propaganda in the medium of their choosing.

  • Bob

After a couple years of my mom trying to tell her parents about Ron Paul, they finally decided to look him up after seeing his interview with Jay Leno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LZyHoAPL3M

I was able to convert my Grandmother a few months ago.  She even donated to the campaign because I was so involved.  This comes straight out of the campaign strategy book.  I would emphasize Tom, that we implement a strategy of a appeal by writing letters to our parents and grandparents about our support for Dr. Paul.

The BEST way is for those with pictures with Dr. Paul, to make postcards out of them and send them to our grandparents.  They WILL hang these on the fridge and share them with their friends.  Don’t be surprised if they even call your mom and dad.  Grandparents love to brag about their grandchildren.  I intend to follow up with my grandmother in this manner.

One of our largest assets is our youth support.  This is one tactic that can be used to capitalize on it!
