Ronald Reagan had to deal with the so-called age issue in 1984. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it come up in a future GOP presidential debate in connection with Ron Paul. How should he answer?
That’s for him to decide, of course, though he’ll need to have some kind of glib answer ready. Here’s what I would say: “Well, I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and I’m happy to say I continue to be in excellent physical condition. But perhaps in the wake of a couple younger presidents the country could benefit from the sobriety and temperament of an older man, and one with a 40-year track record of devotion to principle even when it meant sacrificing personal popularity.”
I addressed this issue at greater length on the Peter Schiff Show.
