On each Contra Cruise so far Bob and I have chosen one excursion to do as a group. It’s optional, of course (you know where you WON’T be forced to do anything you don’t want to do), but it’s fun for the folks who choose to join us.
For this one we’ve chosen an excursion at the Skagway port, on the Tuesday of our cruise. Description:
Your adventure begins in Skagway, Alaska with a guided drive along the historic Klondike Highway to the Summit of White Pass. Originally used by dog teams, horses, and wagons, Klondike Highway is one of the state’s most beautiful mountain roads. See Dead Horse Trail, the White Pass Railroad, and Pitchfork Falls as you continue your ascent. Once you reach the Summit, enjoy a magnificent view of the scenic mountain landscape 3,292 feet above sea level.
We’ve made special arrangements for this excursion to be a private experience just for Contra Cruisers, so don’t worry: there won’t be anyone joining us who doesn’t know who Lysander Spooner was.
The excursion is $49.20 per person, and begins at 10:30am. If you’ve reserved your cabin and would like to join us, please drop Cindy Hoepfner a line (if you’re registered, you know how to reach her by email).
If you’re still on the fence about the cruise itself, time to hop off: this is almost certainly the only time we’ll ever sail to Alaska, and what’s more, Bob and I are having an epic debate on board, moderated by special guest Gene Epstein, that will not be made available to the general public. Loser shaves his beard while still on the ship.
