I just wanted to thank you for yesterday’s podcast, the Mises lecture. Particularly, the line regarding how anytime the government promises the people something, the unspoken end of the sentence is “with a gun.”
I work for the IRS. I’m not specifically involved in collections or harassment (when someone who isn’t being audited sends in an overdue return it goes through me for the initial check). I’ve struggled with ideological issues from day one, but at the time it was the only way I could put food on my table. Nonetheless, I’ve always been uncomfortable with it (yet I kept plugging away, because it was a comfortably miserable rut to be in). Your lecture yesterday crystallized things for me; I don’t want to be the President’s gun. I have to escape. Thank you for helping me to clarify this for myself, and the best of luck to you and your growing family.
