I made an argument the other day that voting, while obviously not morally obligatory, can be morally acceptable under some circumstances. Not everyone agreed. Christine Smith, who ran for the Libertarian Party’s nomination for president in 2008, takes me to task in this video. (“Absurd” and “stupid” are words I myself try to avoid when addressing someone who agrees with me 95% of the time, but everyone has his own style, I suppose.) I cannot fathom why she thinks the words “anarchist” and “should” cannot appear in the same sentence, or why she thinks this point so obvious that only a stupid person would miss it. At any rate, here is her reply to me.
