In Revolution PAC’s Ron Paul ad — which we need your help to get on the air — we say Rick Perry applauded Hillary’s health care plan. One blog comment in defense of Perry says the poor guy couldn’t have known the details of Hillary’s plan at the time he called her efforts “most commendable.”
This is, of course, the Perry campaign’s line. How on earth could Perry possibly have known that Hillary would propose a non-free-market health care plan? I mean, do we expect the guy to be clairvoyant? Maybe she’d been reading Murray Rothbard. You never know!
In fact, though, the contours of the Hillary plan — in other words, everything you needed to know about it — were widely known at the time Perry offered kind words for what she was doing. (And come on: would Ron Paul have described any Hillary Clinton domestic initiative as “very commendable”?) As with Perry’s attempt to run away from his support for TARP, this excuse falls flat.
By the way, here’s the ad again. It makes a powerful case for Ron Paul.
