Today’s Tom Woods Letter, which all the influential people receive every weekday. Be one of them.
The left just makes me crazy.
Yet for several years I set my sights almost exclusively on the neoconservatives. Some people on the right wondered why I wasn’t hitting Obama — whom I hardly ever spoke about — harder.
Answer: I thought it was obvious how bad he was, and plenty of people were writing and speaking about him already.
The wickedness of the neocons, on the other hand, was in my view vastly underappreciated.
But in doing so I managed to forget how earth-shatteringly awful the left is, which is why, by way of making up for lost time, I’ve spent so much of the past year focused exclusively on them.
Left-liberals are suddenly all tears and pity when it comes to a 90-day migration delay, but where the heck were they when Barack Obama was aiding in the starvation of Yemen by the Saudis, or Hillary Clinton was doing her best to wreck two countries?
As I’ve said before and as many of you have noticed, judging by the left’s reactions to various people and policies one could be excused for thinking calling people insensitive names was a worse offense than actually killing people in war.
What politician has ever been written out of polite society for advocating too much war?
Think of the various thought-control sites the left runs, like Media Matters and ThinkProgress. Maybe they’re antiwar (in an inconsistent and milquetoast kind of way), but when have they ever treated a warmonger the way they ridicule and demonize a supporter of, say, secession?
War is mainstream in America, so it doesn’t carry the stigma of secession (the crazy idea that political units might actually get too large). Therefore war may be wrong in this or that case, but supporting secession — or anything else that departs from the 3×5 card of allowable opinion — is a sign that you’re dealing with someone who’s dangerous, crazy, and to be shunned.
Leftist moral priorities make no sense to me.
Let’s advocate “equality” in the military, they say.
OK, yeah, but remember that the military hasn’t been given a reasonable assignment in as long as anyone can remember, and is in fact wreaking havoc all over the world and unleashing horrors no decent person can endorse.
Doesn’t matter. The important thing to these people is for transgender folks to be able to drop bombs right alongside Timmy Jones.
Meanwhile, the Trump policy with potentially the most catastrophic effect is being largely ignored: the proposal for safe zones in Syria and Yemen.
To create those would almost certainly draw the United States still further into both conflicts, with highly uncertain results.
This is the kind of policy a President Trump should be dismissing out of hand as a remnant of the failed thinking of the past dozen or so years.
No, he isn’t saying anything insensitive as he implements this policy, but for those of us who consider death and global chaos worse than politically incorrect language, this isn’t really the point.
By the way, I wonder if you have had the same experience I’ve been having: although discussing politics on social media is always tricky, these days It’s downright impossible.
I find it demoralizing and exhausting.
At the same time, we do need to discuss what’s going on and make sense of it as libertarians.
So I invite you to join me in my private group — a sane space, if you will — where you can escape from the madness all around you:
