I’ve already told you a bit about our experiences with North American Van Lines. I mentioned the delay and the poor communication. I mentioned our valuable oil paintings, which we repeatedly said needed to be packed properly — a service we gladly paid for. The movers hadn’t been told, so they had to scramble for bubble wrap. For oil paintings.
Little did I know I was leaving out the best parts!
I mentioned that the delivery of the stuff in the main truck (we also had an overage truck) is being delivered three days later than the very latest day we were promised. OK, things happen. We were packed up on July 8 and today, delivery day, is July 18. Atrocious, and we weren’t told there was a four-day mechanical delay until I pried this out of them.
But this part is even better.
The overage truck is still in Kansas City a week and a half later, with no immediate prospects for delivery (they don’t have a driver, they tell me) — and I need to be out of town for a week as of this Saturday. Folks, if I don’t make it to Mises University, blame North American Van Lines.
North American partnered with King’s Moving and Storage in Kansas City for this move. Here’s what a bunch of champs these people are. We’re moving several properties, and the movers down here say King’s did such a bad job that they can’t figure out which items belong with which property. They also say there was no need for an overage truck in the first place: the packers didn’t use a ladder, so one-third of the truck is not utilized. And the sloppiness of the packing — the movers here say this is the single worst packing job they have ever seen.
The photograph in this post may give you an idea.
We were offered compensation so trivial as not even to be worth mentioning.
Moral of the story: if you or someone you know may be planning a move, be aware of our experiences and share this post. Do not even consider using North American Van Lines.
